The Society of Sin Burlesque Troupe Launches Firefly Parody Show

September 24, 2015

NEW ORLEANS, September 24, 2015– Space cowboys. Genderbending. Homoerotic stripteases amidst sci-fi shoot-outs. These are just a few of the things audiences can look forward to in “Serenitease: The Shiniest Burlesque in the ‘Verse,” the new burlesque and drag play parodying Joss Whedon’s beloved but short-lived sci-fi series Firefly presented by New Orleans-based burlesque troupe, The Society of Sin.

“Serenitease,” written by Xena Zeit-Geist, is currently scheduled to run for only one night, Friday, October 2, at Eiffel Society (2040 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, La.) at 11p.m. Tickets are currently available online at http://fireflyburlesque.eventbrite.com and will be available at the door the night of the show. General admission tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. VIP tickets are $20 online and are predicted to sell out in the near future.

“Diehard Firefly fans who are still bitter toward FOX about the cancellation will love this show,” said Xena Zeit-Geist, Founder and Artistic Director of The Society of Sin. “We’re parodying the content of the series as well as poking fun at the laundry list of problems Joss Whedon and the rest of the creative team behind the show had with the network.”

In the classic fashion of The Society of Sin, known best for their theatrical burlesque shows that parody pop culture, such as “Pulp Science Fiction: A Star Wars Burlesque Parody” and “A Midsummer Night’s Wet Dream,” Zeit-Geist promises a show that will subvert gender norms, featuring a genderbent cast and what she calls “a whole lot of homoerotic tension.”

Hosted by drag and burlesque sensations Madonnathan Hastings (who plays a charming but narcissistic daytime talk show host named Andromeda) and Lady Lucerne (in the role of Val, an austere employee of The Alliance and Andromeda’s boss),“Serenitease” follows Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Xena Zeit-Geist) and the other space outlaws of the Firefly crew, including Jayne Cobb (Miss Monarch M), Simon and River Tam (Cherry Bombshell, Harvey Wallbanger), Kaylee Frye (Pappa Razzi), “Wash” and Zoë Washburne (Queenie O’Hart, The Maniacal Menace), and Inara Serra (Stevie Poundcake) after they have crash-landed on a strange moon called “Norleans,” the atmosphere of which causes unusual sexual side effects.
